Johannes Maria MONSORNO (1768-1836) Celebrations given on the occasion of the "onomastic feast" of the Duchess of Modena: Concert of a children's choir and delivery of baskets of fruit to an array of guests, among whom we notice the Duchess Watercolor and gouache on paper 300 x 420 mm. Beatrice/10 settembre 1821 Exceptional set of fourteen gouaches by Johannes Maria MONSORNO (1768-1836) documenting the Habsburg court in the Biedermeier period. Biedermeier period. Johannes Maria MONSORNO (1768-1836), best known for his miniature portraits, was awarded the title of "Kammermaler" (Painter of the Chamber [of an Archduke or the Emperor]), a title shared by other great draftsmen of the Biedermeier period such as Thomas Ender (1793-1875), Jakob Gauermann (1773-1843), Johann Kniep (1779-1808), Matthäus Loder (1781-1828) or Karl Russ (1779-1843). Monsorno, who was in the service of Archduke Maximilian Joseph of Habsburg-Este (1782-1863), was honored at an exhibition at the Stadtmuseum Nordico in Linz in 2006, where complementary views to ours were shown. The Celebrations given on the occasion of the "onomastic feast" of the Duchess of Modena Maria-Beatrix of Savoy (1792-1840), daughter of Victor-Emmanuel of Savoy (1759-1824), future king of Piedmont, married in 1812 her maternal uncle, the archduke François of Habsburg-Este, governor of the province of Galicia and future duke of Modena, who would have preferred to marry Marie-Louise, future Empress of the French, of whom he was in love.
