Pair of half-columns in molded and carved alabaster forming candleholders or nightlights decorated with a head of jellyfish in high relief, the hollow base bordered by a molding in doucine. Work of the 19th century. H. 39 cm - Diam. at the base : 13 cm (small chips at the necks, slight wear ; marked BM in pencil in each column) A pair of similar columns was kept in the former collection of Miss Mary de Buck (1868-1930) in her apartment in the rue Saint Romain in Paris, then arrived by succession in the collections of the famous painter Bernard Boutet de Monvel (1881 - 1949) and placed by the latter in his mansion in the passage de la Visitation in Paris.
