Thomas Compigné Medallion representing the Place Louis XV in gilded pewter leaf applied on brown tortoiseshell. In its red morocco case with gilded decoration of palm fronds, a crown of duke in its center. Middle of the 18th century. Diameter : 8.1 cm. (Some accidents to the medallion and the case) Provenance : Alphonse Maze-Sencier Collection, his label on the back. Arriving from Italy probably around 1750, Thomas Compigni took the name of Compigné. His store under the sign of King David, rue Greneta in Paris, specialized in the manufacture and sale of boxes, tric-trac, checkers and chess games, snuffboxes and other cane handles in blond tortoiseshell inlaid with gold.
