A very rare set of silver salt and pepper shakers. Oval in shape, they stand on four scrolled feet, the body chased with channels and wide bands of scrolls. The lower rim is chased with acanthus foliage. The oval, contoured bowl is embossed with twisted ribs. The pepper pot is topped by a lid composed of turning channels and small acanthus scrolls. Salt cellar: Master goldsmith: Jean-Pascal Miston, son of Pierre Miston, received in 1758 upon the death of his father. Montpellier 1758-1759 Length: 10 cm. Height : 6 cm. Weight: 112.8 g. Pepper shaker : Master goldsmith : Pierre Miston, received in 1730, father of Jean-Pascal Miston, died in 1758. Montpellier 1757-1758 Length: 8.2 cm. Height: 5.8 cm. Weight: 160 g. (Minor accidents, the feet of the pepper pot need to be straightened). A spectacular demonstration of the rocaille style, with the exuberance characteristic of Montpellier silversmiths.
