BONZANIGO Giuseppe-Maria (1745-1820). Memorial to Madame Elisabeth, Princess of France France (1764-1794), sister of King Louis XVI. Magnificent round-shaped commemorative medallion, preserved under glass in its period wooden frame, depicting a finely carved scene of several wood species, representing the tomb of Madame Elisabeth, adorned in the center with a portrait of the princess on a blue crystal background, surrounded by allegories representing faith, charity and hope. Good condition. Sight: Diam.: 8 cm. Frame: Diameter: 13 cm. Provenance: former collection of the Maison d'Orléans, according to the handwritten inscription on the reverse, then of the Galerie Léo Schidlof in Geneva, before being in the hands of two important private collections in Milan, Italy, and Paris, France. France in Paris. Reference: this medallion can be compared to a snuffbox with the same decoration, made by Bonzanigo, sold by Olivier Coutau-Bégarie on December 19th under no. 116. On the other hand, another model entitled tombeau pour Louis XVI XVI et Madame Elisabeth, from the Charles de Langlade collection, was sold in Paris on June 24, 2010 under no. 239. The two works by Italian artist Giuseppe- Maria Bonzanigo, born in Turin, are an example of his skill and virtuosity in micro-sculpture. Very famous in his day for his many works featuring members of the royal families of his time.
