TESTAMENT OF THE DUCHESSE DOUAIRIÈRE D'ORLÉANS (1753-1821) MOTHER OF LOUIS-PHILPPE I KING OF THE FRENCH.
Notarized deed drawn up June 6, 1821 by Me Claude Chodron &
Me Benjamin Vernois notaires royaux à Paris, recording the last wishes of the duchesse douairière d'Orléans, née princess Louise de Bourbon, at her château in Ivry-sur-
Seine a few days before her death on June 23, 1821.
Autograph manuscript, 18 pages, folio (300x210 mm), period hardback.
Interesting historical document in which she wishes to be laid to rest as close as possible to her beloved father, the Duc de Penthièvre, in the chapel of Dreux. That the county of Dreux, its forests and all its possessions revert to her son, the Duc d'Orléans, in the hope that he will remain in her direct line. That the edifice built by her for her chancellor M. de Folmon be respected, and that the remains of her wife be deposited there alongside her at the time of her death. That she wishes to found an educational home for young girls in the commune of Ivry, and to this end bequeaths a house and garden to the Archbishop of Paris, so that he may realize this project. To his daughter-in-law, Princess Amélie de
Bourbon-Sicile, the enjoyment of the Duchy of Aumale; to his grandson, the Duc de Penthièvre, named after his beloved father, the Duchy of that name and the Marquisate of Albert. This was followed by a list of donations and bequests on behalf of his retinue and staff.
