POEM DEDICATED TO THE DUKE OF BORDEAUX. - Lot 155
POEM DEDICATED TO THE DUKE OF BORDEAUX. LACOSTE DE PRATVIEL, Roland à Roncevaux, poem in six songs dedicated to Monseigneur le Duc de Bordeaux, autograph manuscript, 104 pages (340x220mm), in-folio, period binding in blue cardboard decorated in the center with a gold fleur-de-lis. Inside is an autograph note signed Montbel, sent from Toulon on August 11, 1843, stating: "I have received from the hands of Delcape, the poem of Roland à Roncevaux, composed by Monsieur de Pratviel, I undertake to give it to Monsieur le Duc de Bordeaux", and a L.A.S. "Montbel", addressed to Pratviel, from Goritz, February 18, 1844: "I have waited for the return of Monsieur le Duc de Bordeaux to give him your poem of Roland à Roncevaux, he has accepted your tribute with benevolence. He asked me to thank you for it, and to tell you that he reads with real interest this work, remarkable for its noble sentiments, very poetically expressed in beautiful verse. It is a consolation for his exile to sympathize with elevated souls and truly French hearts..." Foxing, creases, as is. Provenance: this historical document was subsequently passed on by the Comte de Chambord to his faithful servant Count Guillaume de Montbel (1787-1861) during his exile in Goritz.
