AUTOMATON - TWIN DOLL - CIRCA 1890. - Lot 75
AUTOMATON - TWIN DOLL - CIRCA 1890. Representing a little girl looking into a mirror and holding a handkerchief, wearing a hat and a champagne-colored silk dress embroidered with lace, resting on a velvet base containing the automaton's mechanism inside. Clothes, socks and shoes are original. Model in working order, preserved with its original key. Beautiful automaton with polychrome bisque head, beveled T.4, closed mouth, porcelain hands. Head signed on the reverse with a red stamp: "Déposé Tête Jumeau - Ste SGDG - N°4". When the automaton starts up, it plays a gentle melody of several notes. Hand movements alternate, then synchronize as the head turns from left to right. The head then straightens to see itself in the mirror, front and back, and lifts the blush from its left hand to its face. Age wear, restoration to the arm, accident to the mirror, as is. H. 48 cm - L. 16 cm. History: There are very few surviving automata from the Emile-Louis Jumeau period, made by Entreprise Léopold Lambert around 1890, before the Société française Jumeau of Montreuil-sous-Bois merged with Société S.F.B.J. of Paris.
