WAGNER, Richard. - Lot 55
WAGNER, Richard. L.A.S. Lucerne, July 23, 1867. 1 p. in-8°. Brown ink on laid paper. Not faded. The golden pen of Wagner, who wrote Les Maîtres chanteurs de Nuremberg. "[...] I take the liberty of asking you to be very kind. Would you be so kind as to help me acquire a gold nib of the quality of the one I am sending you herewith. I believe that American or English nibs are preferable to those [sic] from France, although this old example (now broken) is bought in Paris. You will then be good enough to send me some as soon as possible by post [...]. Forgive me for the pain I must cause you [...]". It was with a golden quill that Wagner wrote his greatest masterpieces. At the time of this commission, the master was in the midst of writing Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
