[CHEMISTRY]. D'ARCE, Jean (1724-1801) & Jean-Pierre-Joseph D'ARCET (1777-1844), French chemists, father and son: the former was director of the Sèvres porcelain factory. Set of 3 documents relating to their work and functions. -D'Arcet père : P.A.S. Paris, 22 vendémiaire an VI [13 octobre 1797]. 1 p. in-4°. Countersignature to be identified. Interesting document discussing the fusible alloy to which d'Arcet gave his name. "Les quatre pièces de cinq francs, et l'écu de dix livres constitutionnels que l'administration a envoïées [sic] hier pour essaïes comme suspectées d'être fausses: 1° elles n'ont pas le poids à beaucoup près. 2° quant au titre, elles ne contiennent pas d'argent; il ne trouve que celui qui est fourni par le plomb et le bismuth que les pièces contenoient avec l'Etain [...]". -D'Arcet fils: set of 2 L.A.S. February 19, 1826 and May 6 [1842]. 3 pp. in-4° and 1 p. in-8°. An address on the verso of the second sheet with postal marks. Interesting missive concerning the sanitation work carried out by D'Arcet and in particular the hydrochloric acid disgorgement of the pipe carrying water from Arcueil to Ferme Sainte-Anne. Document mounted in a strong paper frame, wetness, holes without missing text, small median tear. Stamp of the Freund Deschamps collection. The second letter is addressed to Loisel, from the Monnaie de Paris. An engraved portrait of D'Arcet père, by Ambroise Tardieu.
