TRUBERT, Jean (1909-1983) - Lot 59
TRUBERT, Jean (1909-1983) 59. TRUBERT, Jean (1909-1983) The Novel of Renard. Renard and Chanteclerc. India ink on paper. 45x32,5 cm. Jean Trubert, protean French illustrator, is marked during his youth by the works of Benjamin Rabier, Gustave Doré or Caran d'Ache, then later St Ogan. One of his best-known works is the Renard novel, indirectly at the origin of the creation of Asterix, as Uderzo likes to remind us in a letter written in 2005 to Jean Trubert's daughter (Trubert originally wanted to take over the character of the Renard, but realized that Trubert had done it before, forcing him to find another hero!) In 1979, he was guest of honor at the Angoulême festival, and the city's comic book museum has several of his works.
