François Meuret (1800-1887) Portrait of a woman Miniature painted with gouache representing an old lady dressed in a midnight blue dress, her hair held back by a lace headdress with roses. Signed Meuret and dated 1856 on the lower right. In a gilded bronze frame with a finely engraved decoration of an interlace of foliage and a frieze of pearls. Dim. at sight : 9.8 x 7.7 cm (Mottling) François Meuret is a French miniaturist painter born in Nantes in 1800. He was a pupil of Louis-François Aubry, a great miniaturist under the Restoration. He exhibited at the Salon from 1822 to 1852, he won a second class medal in 1827 and a first class medal in 1843. He is the painter of Louis- Philippe and the Orleans family. In 1864, he was named Knight of the Legion of Honor.
