LARGE CHINA PORCELAIN DISH WITH THE ARMS OF THE DUKE OF PENT - Lot 14
LARGE CHINA PORCELAIN DISH WITH THE ARMS OF THE DUKE OF PENTHIEVRE. Yongzheng period (1723-1735). Decorated in the center with the arms of the Duke of Penthievre, with the collar of the Order of the Holy Spirit, accompanied by a large naval anchor, symbol of the office of Grand Admiral of France; on the marli a frieze of spearheads, on the wing flowery scrolls, on the reverse some floral bouquets. This service was ordered for Louis-Jean-Marie de Bourbon (1725-1793), duke of Penthièvre. Grandson of Louis XIV, only son of Louis-Alexandre de Bourbon (1678-1737), legitimate prince, count of Toulouse and Marie-Victoire de Noailles. Most of the currently known pieces of this service are damaged. One plate is illustrated by Michel Beurdeley in Porcelaine de la Compagnie des Indes, Office du Livre de Fribourg, 1974. Fig 189, p. 198. Another is in the Louvre Museum. Four dishes and two plates are preserved in the collections of the Château d'Anet, former property of the Duke of Penthièvre. Two very large dishes are kept in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Two others are kept in a private collection. An ewer and another large dish are in the collections of the Musée de Sceaux. A pair of candlesticks is in a private collection. A bourdalou is kept in the Museum of the Compagnie des Indes in Port-Louis. A milk jug was part of the Tibor collection. A break in the middle of the dish from which two fels arise, another fel on the wing, the arms and the navy anchors slightly burned. Diameter : 39,5 cm.
