London, the author, [1862]-1873. 5 vol. in-folio, 36 x 54cm, [6] ff, CXL pp, [1 +34]ff, 37 pl. & [2 +76] ff, 78 pl. & [2 +70] ff, 76 pl. & [2 +85] ff, 90 pl. & [2 +86] ff, 86 pl, contemporary binding in green chagrin, large gilt lace on the boards, spine ribbed and entirely decorated with gilt designs, triple gilt fillet on the edges, inner frame in the same morocco decorated with a gilt roulette, edges gilt. Unique edition of this magnificent work, complete with 367 finely colored and gummed plates after the author, Henry Constantine Richter, Joseph Wolf and William Hart, mostly lithographed by Richter or Hart. A very good copy, free of foxing. Covers, spines and corners slightly rubbed.
