HISTORY NATURAL BERGERET Jean-Pierre. Phytonomatotechnie universelle... Paris, l'auteur, Dîdot le Jeune, Poisson, 1783-1784. 2 vol. (out of three) in-folio, 24,5 x 39,5cm, [2] ff. 240 pp. 120 pl. & [1]f. 252 pp. 120 pl. contemporary binding in marbled brown basane, spine with nerves. The first two volumes (out of 3) of this astonishing method illustrated with 240 beautiful plates of plants, engraved, printed in green or brown and finely colored. The work was printed in small numbers (200 copies ?) and was published in issues until 1786. Complete copies are very rare. "This astonishing unfinished work is unique in the history of botany. [It is today a work of great value" (Dayrat. Les botanistes de la flore de la France; p.160). A good copy. Slight marginal wetness to the first half and last leaves of volumeI and to the second part of volumeII. Damage to the headpieces and corners, spines weak.
