The New Testament... Paris, François Muguet, 1687-1688.
3 volumes in 2 vols. in-4, 18 x 25cm, [14] ff. 610 pp, [17] ff. 1] ff. & [4] ff. 454 pp, [1] ff. & [4] ff. 314 pp. missing plates, contemporary binding in red morocco, triple fillet and arms in the center, gilt on the boards, spine ribbed and decorated with arms and gilt motifs, gilt roulette on the edges, inner gilt roulette, edges gilt on marbling.
First edition in-4 of the translation (first published in 1666) of the oratorian Denis Amelote, eminent member of the French school of spirituality.
Beautifully printed with Greek, Hebrew and Syriac characters.
A fine copy in red morocco with arms and coat of arms (irons unknown to OHR) probably of Anne-Marie des Salles (deceased in 1714), canoness of the noble chapter of Poulangy, with her handwritten bookplate in ink at the foot of the title of both volumes. The copy then passed to Marie Louise Josephine des Salles, who was probably the daughter of her nephew Louis Antoine Gustave des Salles (1733-1789), marshal of camp and governor of Neufchateau, with her handwritten bookplate dated 1799 in ink at the foot of the title of both volumes. Manuscript bookplate of Abbé Guilgot, of Saint-Dié, on the verso of the first flyleaf of the second volume.
Missing the 4 plates (view and plan of the temple of Jerusalem, maps of the Holy Land and the Mediterranean). Rare spotting. Two corners slightly rubbed, small black marks on the second cover of the second volume.
