S.FRANÇOIS DE SALES Introduction to the devout life... Paris, Imprimerie royale, 1651. In-8, 13,5 x 20,5cm, 12 ff. 658 pp. 6 ff. 1 blank f., contemporary binding in red morocco, gilt framing in the Du Seuil style on the boards, spine decorated with gilt motifs, gilt edges. Beautiful edition printed by Sébastien Cramoisy at the Imprimerie royale. The copper-engraved illustration includes a full-page portrait of the author, drawn and engraved by Grégoire Huret (1606-1670), a title vignette with the coat of arms of Anne of Austria, 13 culs-de-lampe (4 of which are repeated), 7 banding and lettering. A fine copy. A plate representing Saint Mary Magdalene, engraved by Étienne Picart le Romain (1632-1721) after Carracci, was added to the frontispiece at the time.
