ÉCOLE RUSSE DU XIXE SIÈCLE. Portrait of the ambassador Peter Ivanovich Potemkin (1617-1700). Oil on canvas, not signed. Slight wear of the time, some restorations and missing parts. H. 61 cm - L. 50 cm. History : Pierre Ivanovitch Potemkin was the special envoy of the tsar Alexis Mikhailovich to the Spanish court and then to the French court in 1668. In his book published in 1855, entitled Account of the voyage of Pierre Potemkin, Prince Emmanuel Galitzine tells the story of this interesting adventure. Reference: this painting is to be compared with a full-length version of the Russian ambassador, painted in 1681 by Juan Carreño de Miranda (1614-1685), in the Prado Museum in Madrid.
