ALEXANDRIA SERVICE FOR EMPRESS ALEXANDRA FEODOROVNA (1798-1860). Imperial Manufactory of Saint Petersburg, 1903. Hard porcelain dinner plate with blue border, decorated on the top of the rim with a polychrome coat of arms representing a sword passing through a crown of roses on a blue shield background surrounded by the inscription in Cyrillic characters: "For the faith, the tsar and the fatherland". This coat of arms was created for the sovereign by the poet Vasily Zhukovsky (1783-1852), in memory of the nickname given to the princess during her childhood: "white rose", named after the heroine of the novel The Magic Ring by the German writer Friedrich de Lamotte-Fouqué (1777-1843), published in 1813. Good condition. Green marks on the reverse : HII (Nicolas II), under imperial crown, dated 1903. Diameter : 25 cm.
