EGG IN HARD PORCELAIN. - Lot 430
EGG IN HARD PORCELAIN. Imperial Manufactory of Saint Petersburg, 1900-1910. Of ovoid form, with painted decoration on one side of a plate of the Order of Saint Andrew gold and on the other side of the initials XB (Christos Voskres) in gold letters on a red background. Beautiful egg model offered by the imperial family on the occasion of Easter to the officers of the regiment of the Knights Guards. Slight wear to the gilding, but good general condition. H.: 8,5 cm - Diameter: 6 cm. History: with the tradition of exchanging decorated eggs at the end of Lent in Russia, according to the Orthodox rite, symbolizing the resurrection of Christ, the imperial factory produced each year different models for the exclusive use of the imperial family, which they offered to their entourage, their relatives and members of the imperial court. The ones with the imperial monogram, the Romanoff eagle or the plate of one of the great orders were given personally by the tsar or tsarina, like the one we present.
