Border in Point de France, needlepoint, circa 1680-90. - Lot 170
Border in Point de France, needlepoint, circa 1680-90. Rare border in the Point de France of which an identical border referenced E.Cl. 21174 is deposited in the National Museum of the Renaissance of the Château d'Ecouen, most certainly two lengths from the same native border, and made in a royal factory. With two alternating motifs each built in mirror with slight variations in the embroidery in relief or the stitches used to decorate them, well representative of the style "à la Bérain" then in vogue at that time, with on both sides of fine branches of leaves and flowers with embroidery in relief and small picots. Fine linen thread color ivory, spindle mesh later. Dim. 1,80 m x 14 cm (engrêlure included) (good condition, some restorations, a seam in discontinuity of the decoration to 35 cm of the end of the flounce and some soiling on the last 15 cm) Cf. Catalogue of laces - Musée national de la Renaissance Château d'Ecouen - by Mrs Anne Kraatz, p.135, Fig.59
