BOSSUT, abbé Charles - Lot 7
BOSSUT, abbé Charles Traité théorique et expérimental d'hydrodynamique P., Imprimerie Royale, 1786-1787. 2 large volumes in-8, full marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, title and appendix, triple fillet on the boards, red edges. Binding with the arms a little rubbed, one headband damaged and small lack to a plate. T1: [6], XVIII, 545, [3] p., 12 folding plates - T2: [8], 515, [1] p., 11 folding plates. First edition, complete with its 23 folding plates, bound with the arms of the Marquis de Breteuil. In 1771, the abbot Charles Bossut (1730-1814) had published an elementary treatise on hydrodynamics. It was the first of its kind. Shortly after, Turgot asked him to teach this new science which was still difficult to apply. Bossut thus made new experiments which led, 15 years later, to the fundamental work which we present here. Ex-libris of the library of the baron de Breteuil.
