Green morocco wallet, the interior gilded with stylized foliage friezes. Annotation on the front gilded with small irons Le Général de Division AUGEREAU. Lock in silver plated metal. Circa 1795. Dimensions : 43.4 cm X 29.2cm (Wear) Note: Jean-Pierre Augereau (1772-1836) was a French general of the Revolution and the Empire. Brother of the Duke of Castiglione, he volunteered for the 8th battalion of volunteers of Paris in 1792. On the 20th of Nivôse year II, he joined the army of the Pyrénées-Orientales where he remained until the year III. On 5 Messidor Year VI, he became commander-in-chief of the army of Helvetia. On May 8, 1804, he was made brigadier general and on June 14 of the same year, commander of the Legion of Honor. Napoleon I created him baron of the Empire in 1811. In 1812, he participated in the Russian campaign where he was taken prisoner with his brigade. The Emperor, irritated by this failure, suspended him from his duties. Back in France after the abdication of Napoleon I, he received the Cross of Saint-Louis on August 24, 1814 and became honorary lieutenant-general on January 27, 1815.
