Attribué à Léon-Pascal Glain (1723-1789) - Lot 196
Attribué à Léon-Pascal Glain (1723-1789) Portrait of François Estienne (1693-1751) Pastel on paper 54 x 44 cm (at sight) Presented in a rich and beautiful Louis XV style frame François Estienne was the son of Simon Estienne, "juré vendeur de vins". A merchant and bourgeois of Paris, he was the victim of a tragedy that moved the Parisian public in 1751, when the Bac d'Argenteuil sank, plunging him, his fifty-year-old wife, and his twenty-seven-year-old daughter into the cold waters of a November Seine.
