Important and fine panel of Tapestry Audenarde Flanders. Aro - Lot 81
Important and fine panel of Tapestry Audenarde Flanders. Around 1550 Dimensions. 290 cm high x 184 cm wide In silk and wool. Restorations. Re-striping Beautiful freshness of the colors Title: EUTERPE , goddess of music and ARTEMIS A scene taken from the games of country life which inspired Nicolas Poussin's famous Carton Bacchanale à la joueuse de guitare (exhibited in the Louvre) The guitar player in the foreground is probably the goddess of music and at her side probably Artemis (goddess of wilderness and hunting) between two columns surrounded by characters, vegetation and colored fruits, in park and garden. The representation of animals on the border, including a wolf, suggests this subject. We see in the center a village woman carrying a wheel of cheese which is drawn from the country life with a perspective of fortifications in the background. Beautiful border with landscapes of greenery, medallions with foliage, characters, compositions of fruit and garlands of flowers, animals and camels. Remarkable finesse.
