[CHATEAUBRIAND]. DELANDINE DE SAINT-ESPRIT, Jérôme (1787-185 - Lot 211
[CHATEAUBRIAND]. DELANDINE DE SAINT-ESPRIT, Jérôme (1787-1855), scientific editor and biographer of François-René de Chateaubriand, both great defenders of the Monarchy. Set of 7 documents concerning him: -L.S., to a Sir. S.l., December 12, 1843. 3 pp. in-8. Rare and vehement letter dedicated to François-René de Chateaubriand and to the literary property of his works. "It is not the case to listen to the nonsense of the people who have interest to take advantage of the national gift to have the works of Chateaubriand at the rabaix [sic], in order to reinforce [sic] their actions; if you do not believe in the experience of Lefebvre who for 30 years sells the book and who knows everything, there is nothing to do for the party. He is a man of unspoiled probity who sees things very much below their value, but in a disinterested and quite loyal way. M. de CHATEAUBRIAND appreciates him and as for me, if I don't deal with you directly, I prefer not to deal. It is not a matter of speculation. It's a matter of complete return. Price made by CHATEAUBRIAND with titles of his hand and with titles that the property has always been making more and never in decrease, or what it was worth, by dealing with CHATEAUBRIAND, it is still worth it not to say more, it is therefore a business that we can show in front of France; So put aside all those pot-au-noir who would like to swallow the genius of CHATEAUBRIAND to put it in the tax of the "Mysteries of Paris", which I will not agree to do. I have not only my children's patrimony to defend but also the dignity of the literary property which is momentarily in my hands [...]". -L.A.S., to M. Burdet. Paris, December 9, 1841. 4 pp. in-4. About his business, his patrimony, etc. He mentions a "second volume". -L.A.S., to M. Burdet. Paris, April 1, 1842. 1 p. 1/3 in-4. About his business, his patrimony, etc. Handwritten calculations. -4 documents related to the sales and acquisitions of goods of Mr. Jean-Louis-Catherine-Jérôme Delandine de Saint-Esprit. 1837-1844. 48 pp. in-4. Expéditions signed only by the notary. Delandine de Saint-Esprit published many works of François-René de Chateaubriand, in particular, as a scientific editor : Oeuvres complètes de M. le vicomte de Chateaubriand, in 1826 ; Oeuvres romantiques de M. le vte de Chateaubriand, in 1831 ; Sublimités de Chateaubriand, in (1854), etc.
