VICTOR HUGO'S ELECTION - 1871. The definitive telegraphic dispatch of the elections of February 16, 1871, where Victor Hugo is in second position, is attached. Attached is the list of the 40 candidates proposed by the National Assembly for the legislative elections in the department of the Seine and two ballots where Victor Hugo's name appears and the official dispatch of February 14, 1871, announcing Victor Hugo at the head of the list. Various formats, foxing, as is. History: after the fall of the Second Empire in France, Paris voted to elect new deputies, and this just one month before the uprising of Parisians. Victor Hugo, hero of the fight against Napoleon III and the Second Empire, was elected deputy of the Seine on January 19, 1871 and went in February to Bordeaux, where the Assembly was going to sit.
