HUGO Victor (1802-1885) - Lot 373
HUGO Victor (1802-1885) Folded letter with address of the addressee on the reverse, containing an autograph note signed "V. H." addressed to Mrs. Paillard de Villeneuve, dated March 7, 1838, in-4°, with postmark. Small tears. Text : "At your feet, madam, the play and the author". Provenance: former collection of Mrs. Paillard de Villeneuve, wife of Adolphe-Victor Paillard de Villeneuve (1804-1874), Victor Hugo's lawyer. Hugo's mistress, Juliette Drouet, was quite jealous of this lady. History: that day, Victor Hugo was in rehearsal for the revival at the Comédie-Française of Marion De Lorme, which had its premiere the next day. With this note Victor Hugo probably sent tickets for this rehearsal to Mme Paillard.
