TABLE SERVICE OF THE GRAND DUCHESS ALEXANDRA NICOLAYEVNA OF RUSSIA. Imperial Manufacture, St. Petersburg, 1843. Hard porcelain dinner plate, round shape, slightly hollow, enhanced with a gold border and edged with a large stylized geometric frieze gilded on a blue background, decorated with six cartouches on a white background, representing bouquets of polychrome flowers, on the upper part appears the imperial double-headed eagle carrying the globe and the sceptre and on the lower part the monogram in gold letters A. H.: (Alexandra Nicolaïévna) under imperial crown. Time wear in places to the gilding, but good general condition. Blue marks on the reverse: H. I. (Nicolas I), under imperial crown. Diameter : 24 cm. History: The Grand Duchess Alexandra Nicolaïevna of Russia (1825-1844), third daughter of Tsar Nicholas I, was distinguished by her beauty and musical talent. She married at the age of 18, January 18, 1844, Prince Frederick William of Hesse-Cassel (1820-1884). The marriage of the Grand Duchess was fixed in a very short time, her trousseau was quickly realized. The model of this service was copied from the one made two years earlier for the wedding of his sister the Grand Duchess Olga Nicolaïévna.
