PENHOLDER INKWELL. - Lot 241
PENHOLDER INKWELL. HAVING BELONGED TO MIRABEAU. Of round shape, in white glazed earthenware, bronze mounting, resting on a circular metal base, bearing the engraved inscription: "Écritoire de Mirabeau, 1789, donné à Gabriel II par de Comps amicum simal et amicitiam ceternilali comsecratarus", model with three compartments, containing in the center the container in the shape of a turret, supporting a cup provided with three places for the pens. A handwritten piece signed "De Comps", noted "To Gabriel, my heart seized it, April 1791 - My heart disposed of it October 1895" is attached. Small accidents, as is. French work, late 18th century, revolutionary period. H.: 8 cm - Diam.: 18 cm. Provenance : as the engraved inscription indicates, this inkwell belonged to Honoré-Gabriel Riquetti, count of Mirabeau (1749-1791), known as "Mirabeau" and was offered by Monsieur de Comps to the person who received it, in October 1895.
