MENU. From the dinner given on July 14, 1861, at the Ardoisi - Lot 208
MENU. From the dinner given on July 14, 1861, at the Ardoisière near Vichy, in honor of Emperor Napoleon III, with historical handwritten annotations, preserved in its original natural wood frame. Some stains, but good condition. Sight : H. : 39 cm - W. : 25 cm. Frame: H.: 47.5 cm - W.: 38 cm. Text : "A few days later, in the same place, at the Ardoisière, the Emperor, to whom nothing escapes, appreciated in a comic artist, Vivier, a real talent. But consummate in the art of enchanting and pleasing, Vivier had already performed in different languages, on the piano, the violin and the hunting horn, which is familiar to him, several pieces that were warmly applauded. He had managed to master his audience to such an extent that it seemed as if he had been transported into a new world. The Emperor himself shared this illusion. The triumph was complete. The eminent artist a few moments later, received from our august visitor, who likes to raise and reward merit wherever he finds it, the cross of the Legion of Honor (...). France owes him everything, even in the midst of peace. Especially famous hero; without dreading the war, the Emperor likes better to console our land: the laurels on his peace yield to the benefits."
