ROMANCE DE LA REINE HORTENSE. Romances set to music by Hortense duchesse de Saint-Leu, ex-queen of Holland, published in London, by Dobbs & Co, printed by Cox and Baylis, second edition [c.1824...], contemporary binding in green half-leather, decorated in the center of each cover with a frieze embossed in relief in a frame decorated with profiles of characters and musical instruments, in-4°, Italian format (370x265 mm), smooth spine, gilt edges, 15 pages, followed by 12 scores illustrated opposite with 12 plates engraved by William Read (1767-1846), representing important moments in the life of the Duchess of Saint-Leu Bears on the title page the handwritten inscription in French: "Offered with the sentiments of the highest consideration to Lady Holland, by the Cte de La Garde [Auguste de Lagarde de Messence (1783-1853)], Brighton, this 20 November 1827". Age wear, foxing, as is. Provenance: copy bearing the bookplate of the Holland House library, having belonged to Elisabeth Fox, baroness Holland (1771-1845), well known in London for her literary salon, called Cope Castel.
