Reference : the Lancel shape designed in 1829 is one of the most frequently produced vase shapes by the Sèvres factory until the Second Empire. Our vase is very close in shape and decoration to the one we sold on November 18, 2020, decorated with a medallion representing Prince Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of Orleans. It is very likely that originally these two vases formed a pair.
Provenance: this vase made by the Sèvres factory on July 22, 1837 was sold for 500 francs (Vv3, 23-77) and delivered for the Count of Neuilly [a title used by King Louis-Philippe for his personal purchases] in August 1850 (Sèvres archive reference: Vbb11, fol.35v°). A counterpart to this vase representing the Duke of Orleans was made at the same time, but sold on December 24, 1853 (V38, 90v°) for 500 francs. It is the latter that we sold on November 18, 2020 under n° 121.
