Louise d'Orléans (1812-1850), reine des Belges Garlands of intertwined flowers forming the first name "Louise" Watercolor on paper 45 x 115 mm. Handwritten annotation, in ink, on the mounting board: made and given by Princess Louise / d'Orléans - Neuilly 1827. Affectionately nicknamed Bobonne, Louise was the second child from the marriage of Louis-Phillipe and Marie-Amélie. She received a solid artistic education from Redouté, Scheffer, Vernet and Delaroche. In 1832, after long diplomatic negotiations, she married Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, the first king of the Belgians, reigning over a nation whose independence was still fragile. The couple gave Belgium four heirs, whose descendants still reign.
