Green morocco wallet with gilded decoration of stylized foliage, palmettes, and greeks. Annotation gilded with small irons Desoer receiver general of the Dép.t de l'Ourte in Liege Lock and key in silver plated metal. Circa 1795. Dimensions : 48.5 cm X 33.5 cm Note: Jean Charles Joseph DESOER (1752-1831), son of a printer-librarian from Liège in the middle of the 18th century, left for London, before the Revolution, in order to study. He returned five years later "with all the prestige of a new man". He was ennobled by the Prince Bishop in 1789. He developed new printing techniques and published, in turn, the Journal de Liège and the Gazette nationale Liégeoise. He later acquired the Castle of Kinkempois and was appointed Receiver General of the French department of Ourthe before becoming Mayor of Liege in 1813.
