Rare triptych with glued threads, Marianna Elmo, Italy, Lecce, 18th century, polychrome silk threads and metallic threads glued with wax on a cardboard background, the carnations are painted in tempera on silk satin. Each painting signed Marianna Elmo in the lower left corner, 26 x 19 cm. Superb molded wood frame, carved gilded and lacquered black decorated with figures of cherubs, pilasters and foliage, 46 x 81 cm. Tobias and the Angel is a faithful representation of an engraving of the painting by Titian painted in 1539 at the Madonna dell'orto in Venice. The Virgin of the Seven Sorrows is represented in prayer, seated and bathed in light pierced by swords. Saint January is represented in front of Vesuvius smoking with the two vials containing his blood at his feet. A different painting in glued threads of the patron saint of Naples is kept in the Chapel of the Royal Palace in Naples.
