Elegant pair of flintlock pistols by Nicolas Boutet, flat-bodied barrels signed "Manufacture Versailles", steel bassoon, slightly flared octagonal barrels bearing the punches of Leclerc and Boutet as well as the inscription "Boutet Directeur Artiste", long barrels and smooth grips, the caps bear the inscription "Le Directoire au Citoyen Ruby chef de la 89ème demi brigade", horn-tipped ramrods. The barrels being a little pricked, they were cleaned and re-bronzed. Barrel: 21 cm, total length: 35 cm. Ruby (Sébastien), general, born in Villedieu (Indre) on March 25, 1755, died in the castle of Vou near Châteauroux (Indre) on March 1, 1800. soldier in the regiment of the Queen (which became in 1791 the 41st of infantry) February 3, 1775; corporal April 1, 1780; sergeant June 2, 1781; sergeant major June 4, 1785; captain in the 1st battalion of Indre volunteers October 26, 1791; adjutant major January 19, 1792; in the army of Moselle; lieutenant-colonel of the said battalion, November 1, 1793, in the army of the Rhine; seized at Berstheim 6 redoubts, a flag and 2 cannons, December 2, 1793; obtained from Pichegru a sabre of honor on this occasion. Appointed brigade commander of the 89th on the battlefield of Friedberg, August 24, 1796; confirmed in this rank by the Executive Directory. September 1, 1796; served at the battle of Kamlach, September 12; under Schauenburg at the capture of Berne, March 5, 1798, then at that of Soleure; obtained on this occasion from the Directory a sabre and pistols of honour.
