Basin said of Charles V Large basin representing the capture of Tunis by Charles V (1535), the edge lined with twenty-four silver cartridges chased gilded and enamelled. The obverse is decorated with chased battle scenes and bears a dedication engraved in Latin capitals. The reverse is entirely decorated with chased Moorish motifs. Inscription : EXPEDITIO-ET-VICTORIA-AFRICANA-CAROLI-V-ROM-IMP-P-F-AUGUSTO-1535 (engraved on the obverse of the basin) Three punches : City of Antwerp crowned hand, figure Z (1558-1559); PTR Peeter de Weent (1498-1564) goldsmith. Copy in gilded and silvered copper of the famous basin preserved in the Louvre Museum (MR 341), English manufacture of Victorian period. Marked on the reverse side in a welded oval cartouche VR (Victoria Regina) under Royal crown. D. : 62 cm
