Atelier du Maître de Rabenden, vers 1510-1520 - Lot 87
Atelier du Maître de Rabenden, vers 1510-1520 Saint Anne trinitarian in carved basswood, polychromed, hollowed out back. Seated on a throne bench and a cushion, Saint Anne holds on her knees, the Virgin on her right and the Child Jesus on her left. She is wearing a bonnet and a veil passing under her chin, stuck on her left side. Mary wears a crown and the Child holds an open book on his lap. H. : 74 cm (Reworked gilding and polychromy) The workshop of the Master of Rabenden had a production of this iconography several times repeated. Even if the attitude of the figures may vary, stylistic characteristics are unique to him. In particular, first of all, the attitude of the characters is always frontal, with the legs spread. Furthermore, the heavy clothing alternates with areas of soft folds and open spaces; the massive forms, the large and strong hands with almost square fingers, the faces with heavy features and oblique eyes are the characteristics of the Rabenden Master and his companions that we find here.
