The Muse and the Artists, circa 1850 Folded fan, the double sheet in lithographed paper and enhanced in colors. A muse at the top of a hill lets her thoughts wander, her lyre near her. Artists approach, accompanied by young women in traditional Italian costumes. The smoldering Vesuvius is represented in the background. Reverse: scene of a meeting between a peasant woman and a couple of aristocrats in the gardens, perhaps that of the Palais des Tuileries in Paris. Mounting in white mother-of-pearl cut, engraved and gilded with floral motifs. Gilded metal clasp. H.t. 28,5 cm-H.f. 9,5 cm (lacks to the setting)
