The Attentive Reading, ca. 1770-1780 Folded fan, the paper-lined skin sheet painted with gouache on a silver background of a couple of shepherds absorbed in their reading. Garlands of flowers on both sides. Two children playing in front of a small house. Has kept its original border painted with flowers. Fine ivory frame* cut, carved, engraved and gilded with a couple of dancers of loves, baskets and hearts on fire. The plumes are decorated with a miniature on mother-of-pearl protected by a mica plate showing, for one, a woman at her toilet and for the other, a birdcage and a flowery vase. H.t. 27,5 cm-H.f. 12,5 cm (wear, oxidation, restorations)
