TABLE CIGAR LIGHTER. OF KING MANUEL II OF PORTUGAL. By FABERGÉ, St. Petersburg, 1899-1908. In finely chased silver, in the shape of a chimpanzee, its head turned backwards and looking with astonishment at its tail which contains the tinder that lights the flame of the cigar-lighter. The head is removable, hinged on a tank of alcohol. Gilt interior. Good condition. Title mark: 88, Saint Petersburg, 1899-1908. Goldsmith's mark: ?A?????: (Fabergé). Hallmark of the master goldsmith: Julius Rappoport (1864-1916). H. : 11,5 cm - W. : 7,5 cm - D. : 8 cm. Weight : 477 g. History : Former collection of King Manuel II of Portugal (1889-1932), then transmitted by succession to his mother, Queen Marie-Amélie, born Princess of Orleans (1865-1951) and then to Mr. Louis Jouve, the queen's steward during her exile in France from 1921 to 1951. This object was offered to the king on the occasion of his marriage with the princess celebrated in 1913 with the princess Augusta-Victoria de Hohenzollern (1890-1966), by a member of the Russian imperial family, most probably the grand duchess Wladimir or the prince Felix Youssoupoff, present at the wedding and very close to the young king. As well as another model, illustrated on page 40 of the book "Carl Fabergé goldsmith to the imperial court of Russia" by A. Kenneth Snowman, Greenwich House, New York, 1979. The latter was presented in Paris, in the exhibition "Fabergé orfèvre des tsars" organized by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, in 1993, under 210. And is currently in the collections of the Kremlin Arsenal in Moscow, under inventory number Inv.MR 5667
