VICTORIA FÉODOROVNA, grande-duchesse de Russie, née princesse Victoria-Mélita de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha (1876-1936) Large album that belonged to the princess. Bound in embossed leather, decorated in the centre of the first cover with her monogram V (Victoria) under the English royal crown, folio (300x230 mm), containing more than 400 sepia and B&W photographs, of various sizes, pasted on the pages of this album, depicting portraits and group scenes, featuring the princess and members of her family, posing in various circumstances, dating from 1905 to 1911 and views of her residences. These include portraits of Grand Duke Kyril Wladimirovich; Prince Alfred of Hohenlohe-Langenbourg and his children; the Duchess of Edinburgh, née Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia; Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia; Countess Tolstoy; Queen Elizabeth of Romania (Carmen Sylva); Queen Marie of Romania and her children; Princess Eulalia of Spain; Prince Carol of Romania; Princess Beatrice of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, her husband the Duke of Galliera; several family scenes at Rosenau Castle; the daughters of the Duchess of Edinburgh: Princesses Marie (Queen of Romania), Victoria-Melita (Grand Duchess of Russia), Alexandra (Princess of Hohenlohe-Langenburg) and Beatrice (Infanta of Spain); the Duchess of Edinburgh surrounded by her family; Grand Duke Kyril Wladimirovich and his daughter Princess Maria Kyrilovna; Prince Nicholas of Romania; Princess Elisabeth of Romania; several group scenes of the Duchess of Edinburgh in Tegernsee; several group scenes of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia; Princess Alexandra of Hohenlohe-Langensburg lying on her bed; her children playing in Tegernsee and at Fabron Castle; interior and exterior views of Gotha Castle (residence of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh); Tegernsee Castle, its interior and gardens (residence of Princess Alexandra of Hohenlohe-Langenbourg); Coburg Castle; Edinburgh Palace; Fabron Castle (summer residence of the Duchess of Edinburgh in Nice); views of the Russian church in Cannes; views of Rosenau castle; views of Paris and Venice; staff and employees; at the end of the volume appear photographs pasted in later by a member of the palace, certainly one of the principal stewards, following the princess on her travels. Provenance: former collection of Princess Victoria-Melita, granddaughter of Emperor Alexander III of Russia and Queen Victoria of Great Britain. She married the Grand Duke Ernest-Louis of Hesse-Darmstadt, but after the death of their only daughter, Princess Elisabeth, in 1903, the couple separated. After this break-up she married her cousin, Grand Duke Kyril Wladimirovitch of Russia (1876-1938) in 1905.
