ZZ TOP: American rock band from Houston, Texas, since 1969, - Lot 320
ZZ TOP: American rock band from Houston, Texas, since 1969, this band has sold over 75 million records worldwide. Originally composed by guitarist/vocalist Billy Gibbons, bassist/vocalist Dusty Hill and drummer/percussionist Frank Beard. 1 guitar by BILLY GIBBONS (1949), California S-Style 2006 and customized by Pim's Stapp. The instrument was Gibbons' couch guitar, a very cool version of the Strat that he used to play while watching TV, occasionally falling into one of the riffs on his last three albums. This California has a maple feel to it, making it closer to Gibbons' preference in Strats.
As he did with Tokai in the '90s, Gibbons took this California, which most guitarists would have considered a worthless Strat knockoff, and made it worthy of his blues-drenched fingers. Starting with a hot rod-inspired, neon pink paint job, Gibbons then designed a pinstriping pattern that really makes this instrument stand out. He then continued the reinvention of his guitar with a green perloid plate that perfectly complements the pink of the body, plus he added blue, green and pink buttons. The three pickups are signed Di Marzio DP403 Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 on the bridge, DP414 Virtual Vintage Sol Pro in the middle and the DP404 Virtual Vintage Solo on the neck, a model that is no longer being manufactured and is starting to attract the attention of collectors. This simple Strat has been transformed into a blues machine with a hot rod look. It took Gibbons to pull this off.
This beautiful California guitar has been signed by the Reverend himself on the back of the headstock and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity, a photo of Billy holding the guitar, a photo of Billy signing the guitar and a photo of Billy signing the certificate.
