CLAUDE FRANCOIS (1939/1978): Author, composer and performer. - Lot 115
CLAUDE FRANCOIS (1939/1978): Author, composer and performer. 1 naive painting signed by the famous Haitian painter Préfète Duffaut (1923/2012) and having belonged to Claude François. Bought on Monday, April 5, 1976 in Port-aux-Princes by the singer, during his Caribbean tour organized from April 2 to 8, 1976. This painting was on the walls of the American House in his property Le Moulin de Dannemois. A major figure in Haitian art, Prefet Duffaut began his career as a painter following an apparition of the Virgin Mary. While completing a construction project on the small island of Gonâve, in the west of Haiti, she appeared to him in a dream, perched on top of a mountain in the shape of a sugar loaf, and asked him to paint her city of Jacmel. Throughout her life, Préfète Duffaut never stopped answering this request. A story that impressed Cloclo a lot when he bought this painting. It should be remembered that the singer had grown up in the cult of the Virgin Mary, attending the Breton Brothers School in Ploërmel from 1944 to 1950 in Ismailia, Egypt. Format 78x110. Imaginary City series.
