Large Buratto panel frame, Italy, 17th century. In fine chestnut-colored Buratto embroidered with a floral decoration in vivid polychrome silk: wide frieze with vases supporting stems of spring flowers such as tulips embroidered in three shades of yellow and their foliage in three shades of green, lilies in two shades of blue or two shades of burgundy and peach, with the stamens embroidered in yellow or green, and framed by a narrower frieze of cartouches festooning the border and supported by a waving ribbon in pale blue silk. The Buratto is lined with a warm brown linen gauze, and mounted in the center on a later peach colored silk panel. Dim. panel : 2,10 x 1,45 m approximately, Buratto width : 32cm. (accidents and restorations to the Buratto but colors of the embroidered silks still very fresh)
