In his unpublished Memoirs Emile Bernard writes: I took root in Saint-Briac (1886). I was welcomed by this friendly population; the whole town knew me, I was even asked to organize the resting places for Corpus Christi. We left in joyful bands, on the beautiful evenings of June, to plunder the countryside in bloom, to cut down whole trees to decorate the altars
