A chest of drawers with a double recess in veneer and marque - Lot 209
A chest of drawers with a double recess in veneer and marquetry of rosewood, violet wood, green tinted sycamore and lemon tree. Fine decoration on all sides of reserves inscribing attributes of the arts and music, as well as flowering bouquets. Cambered feet with clawed hooves surmounted by an acanthus and a bronze astragal. The rounded uprights with three simulated flutes are surmounted by an ormolu drop. It opens in front with two rows of drawers and a row of three drawers in the waist, decorated with a frieze of interlaces centered on leaves. Veined white marble top. Stamped twice "F.RUBESTUCK" and "JME" François Rubestuck (1722 - 1785), received master on May 7, 1766. H. 87 cm - W. 127,5 cm - D. 56 cm Transitional period. We know of a similar chest of drawers which is kept in the collections of the Mobilier Nationale under the inventory number GME-5515-000 (Fig.1)
