Josse-Joseph-François Leriche, (1738 - 1812), d'apres - Lot 192
Josse-Joseph-François Leriche, (1738 - 1812), d'apres Les Oies du Père Philippe Terracotta group Accident and restoration (right hand of the young girl on the right) Signed and dated "Lerriche 1780" on the back of the base H. 27 cm François-Jospeh Leriche entered the Sèvres factory in 1757, he was head of the workshop and created models for hard porcelain biscuit statuettes. Under the direction of Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809), he was inspired here by a tale by La Fontaine, Les Oies du Père Philippe. The tale evokes the awakening of love, and here Leriche appropriates the theme and presents two young girls dressed in the fashion of the time, inspired by the fashion prints circulating in the 1780s. Our terracotta is probably a preparatory model for the biscuit statuette of the same title, of which the Musée de la Manufacture de Sèvres holds a copy (inv. MNC27832).
