Precious gold and silver embroidery corporalier, probably Sp - Lot 94
Precious gold and silver embroidery corporalier, probably Spain, circa 1600, velvet, taffeta and crimson damask sewn on a wooden core with opulent embroidery mainly in cannetille, curl, cordonnet and spiral cartisane gold and silver. The top is embroidered in full, decorated on the center of the Good Shepherd, treated in nude gold, in an architectural niche sown with fleur-de-lis on the bottom, surmounted by an inscription and framed by interlacing punctuated with rosettes. The interior is lined with a crimson damask decorated with oak foliage, the back of the cover embroidered in the same way Arma Christi in a frame of interlacing punctuated with inscriptions. The taffeta covered underside bears the inventory numbers (?) 5615 on the cloth and No. 458 on a label, (slight wear and oxide on the top), H.: 5 cm. 26 x 24 cm, Bibl.: A similar damask given to a Florence factory from the Gandini Collection is in the Modena Museum.
